Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. This year, the celebration took place from Sunday, January 28 through Saturday, February 3. The theme, “Catholic Schools: Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.” focused on the value that Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to the church, communities and nation.
Catholic School's Week was a hit! Our Lady of Pompeii School celebrated the week with Masses, an Open House event and fun daily activities for students, families and staff. The breakdown of activities were as follows:
Sunday: Celebrating Our Parish
Parishioners participated in Sunday Mass at Our Lady of Pompeii Church.
Monday: Celebrating Our Community
Students wrote letters to the Apostle Adorers, the retired sisters who reside at the Apostles of the Sacred of Jesus retirement home in Hamden, CT. We remembered them for their many years of service and fidelity to the ministry.
Tuesday: Celebrating Our Uniqueness
Students wore crazy socks when they donated a pair of socks for the homeless. We also hosted an Open House to welcome new students and their families.
Wednesday: Celebrating Our Special Persons
Students and the special persons in their lives shared a continental breakfast in Father Demo Hall. It was a wonderful event organized and hosted by the parents in the Parent-Student Association (PSA).
Thursday: Student Appreciation Day
Teachers showed their appreciation to their students! They showered them with love, surprised them during the day with special treats and gave them privileges. Students were granted a free Dress Down Day.
Friday: Celebrating Faculty, Staff and Volunteers
During First Friday Mass our school community acknowledged the faculty and staff. During the faculty meeting, teachers presented gifts and artwork to Sr. Diane (on behalf of their students) and Sr. Diane expressed her appreciation.
We are grateful for the brilliant children who inspire us to work hard and make us proud of our vocations. We enjoyed celebrating everyone within our school community, fostering OLP Pride and demonstrating Jesus' love. From our hearts to yours, cheers!
